About Media Moana
A home for camera photos: storage, search and sharing for photographers.
Who runs it
Media Moana is built and run by one independent developer (jun-zhang-pro on GitHub). It is operated by Jun Zhang, a sole proprietor trading as Media Moana, based in California, United States — the same party the privacy policy and the terms name.
Why it exists
Phone photo apps are built around a phone's camera roll. A camera photographer's library is something else: RAW files beside the JPEGs, hundreds of frames from one shoot, and a set of pictures that family or a client should be able to open from one link. Media Moana is built for that library — it keeps originals and RAW files as they are, finds any shot by what's in it, and sends a shoot as an album.
Where your photos live
Your photos are stored in Cloudflare R2, in North America, which encrypts everything it stores. The servers that run Media Moana — its databases and the processing of your photos — are in Falkenstein, Germany, at Hetzner. To make photos searchable, a web-size copy of each one, with no location in it, is analyzed by Google's Gemini model through OpenRouter, using only providers that neither store nor train on it. You can export your whole library — originals in their folders, a metadata file per photo — at any time, on any plan. The privacy policy lists every provider and how long each thing is kept.
