Everything Media Moana ships that someone else wrote, and the terms it travels under.
Third-party notices
Media Moana ships other people's work in two places that leave our machines: the
JavaScript and webfonts mediamoana.com sends to a visitor's browser, and the
npm package moana-cli with the 11 runtime dependencies it installs with — a
package this repo no longer builds, whose last version is still installable (§1).
This file is the single source of truth for what that work is and under which
licence it travels. /licenses on the site renders this same file as the page you
may be reading it on (§3). Rendered, not retyped: the tables stay tables, and every
licence text is a fenced block, which keeps the part that must be word-for-word
word-for-word.
Nothing here is optional politeness. MIT, ISC, Apache 2.0, the 3-clause BSD licence and the SIL Open Font License each make passing the notice on a condition of redistribution — and a tarball on a registry, and a bundle sent to every visitor's browser, are both redistribution. §5 carries every text.
The judgement that decides what belongs here is one question: do these bytes leave our machines? §4 lists the things that answer no — running software as a network service is not distribution — because "we thought about it and left it out" and "we forgot" look identical in a file.
History. The CLI half is moana#62:
moana-clihad been on npm since 2026-05-22 with no notice file. The site half is moana#112: it was excluded while the product was frozen and the site expected to retire (2026-09-08 → 2026-09-23); the site stays and is being rebuilt for the v1 relaunch (moana#99), so it is in scope.apps/cliwas removed (moana#72) before a version carrying this file was published, and the package is deprecated (moana#73); butmoana-cli@1.0.2is still installable, and anything anyone can stillpnpm addis still being redistributed. So §1 stays, and this page is where that version's notices can be read.

2. Sent to a visitor's browser by the site
mediamoana.com renders on the server, but its interactive parts are React
components, so Next.js ships their libraries to every visitor. The list is every
apps/console dependency imported from the client module graph (a "use client" file
or anything it imports), read package by package from what is installed — not
copied from a sibling repo. Three are not MIT: next-auth is ISC (§5.2),
filesize is BSD-3-Clause (§5.4) and maplibre-gl is BSD-3-Clause with the code it
bundles (§5.6, below the table); every other row is MIT (§5.1), though monaco-editor
carries an Apache-2.0 copy of DOMPurify (below the table).

What monaco-editor bundles
The JSON schema editor of two admin pages (AI presets, chat) loads monaco-editor from the site's own bundle — the
editor core, its editing features and JSON support only, and only when an admin opens it. Until 2026-10-05
@monaco-editor/react fetched the editor from jsDelivr at run time, so it was not redistributed by us; now it is. Its
ESM build carries its own copies of:
- Apache-2.0 (§5.3) — DOMPurify 3.4.15 ((c) Cure53 and other contributors; offered as Apache-2.0 or MPL-2.0 — used under Apache-2.0).
- MIT (§5.1) —
marked14.0.0 (Copyright (c) 2018+, MarkedJS · Copyright (c) 2011-2018, Christopher Jeffrey), and Node.js'spathmodule (Copyright Joyent, Inc. and other Node contributors).
Its ThirdPartyNotices.txt also names TypeScript, the HTML 5.1 W3C draft, JS Beautifier, the Ionic docs and
vscode-swift: they come with its TypeScript, HTML and Swift language support, which the site does not load.
What maplibre-gl bundles
The library view's map (moana#93) loads maplibre-gl only when that view is opened. Its
browser build inlines its own npm dependencies, so they ship with it:
- BSD-3-Clause —
@mapbox/vector-tile(Copyright (c) 2024, Mapbox),pbf(Copyright (c) 2026, Mapbox); texts in §5.7. - BSD-2-Clause —
@mapbox/tiny-sdf(Copyright (c) 2016-2024 Mapbox, Inc.),@mapbox/unitbezier(Copyright (C) 2008 Apple Inc.); texts in §5.7. - ISC (§5.2) —
@mapbox/point-geometry(Copyright (c) 2024, Mapbox),@maplibre/geojson-vt(Copyright (c) 2025 MapLibre contributors),@maplibre/maplibre-gl-style-spec(Copyright (c) 2020, MapLibre contributors),earcut(Copyright (c) 2026, Mapbox),kdbush(Copyright (c) 2026, Vladimir Agafonkin),potpack(Copyright (c) 2025, Mapbox),quickselect(Copyright (c) 2024, Vladimir Agafonkin),tinyqueue(Copyright (c) 2017, Vladimir Agafonkin). - MIT (§5.1) —
@mapbox/jsonlint-lines-primitives(Copyright (c) 2012 Zachary Carter),bidi-js(Copyright (c) 2021 Jason Johnston),@maplibre/vt-pbf(Copyright (c) 2025 MapLibre contributors),@maplibre/mlt(Copyright (c) 2024 MapLibre contributors; offered as MIT or Apache-2.0 — used under MIT),gl-matrix(Copyright (c) 2015-2025, Brandon Jones, Colin MacKenzie IV.),murmurhash-js(Gary Court; the package ships no LICENSE file,license: MITis itspackage.json).
The map's tiles, style, fonts and icons are not code the site ships: they are loaded at view time from
OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org), whose data is © OpenMapTiles and © OpenStreetMap contributors — credited on the
map itself, as their terms ask.
What pdf-lib and @pdf-lib/fontkit bring
The photobook (moana#413) loads both only when an owner makes one, and writes the PDF in their browser. With them come:
- MIT (§5.1) —
@pdf-lib/standard-fonts(Copyright (c) 2018 Andrew Dillon; its metrics of the PDF standard 14 fonts keep Adobe's own line, Copyright (c) 1985, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1997 Adobe Systems Incorporated),@pdf-lib/upng(Copyright (c) 2017 Photopea),pako(Copyright (C) 2014-2017 by Vitaly Puzrin and Andrei Tuputcyn);tslibis 0BSD (Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation), which asks for no notice. - Inlined in
@pdf-lib/fontkit's build (itsdevDependencies, rolled intodist/fontkit.es.js) — MIT (§5.1):@pdf-lib/brotli,@pdf-lib/restructureand@pdf-lib/unicode-properties(Andrew Dillon's forks of Devon Govett'sbrotli,restructureandunicode-properties),dfa,unicode-trieandtiny-inflate(Copyright (c) 2015-present Devon Govett),clone(Copyright © 2011-2015 Paul Vorbach),deep-equal(Copyright (c) 2012, 2013, 2014 James Halliday, 2009 Thomas Robinson),base64-arraybuffer(Copyright (c) 2012 Niklas von Hertzen),buffer(Copyright (c) Feross Aboukhadijeh, and other contributors) withbase64-js(Copyright (c) 2014 Jameson Little), and Node.js'seventsandutil(Copyright Joyent, Inc. and other Node contributors); Apache-2.0 (§5.3) — the Brotli decoder thatbrotliports (Copyright 2013 Google Inc., its header kept in the build); BSD-3-Clause —ieee754(Copyright 2008 Fair Oaks Labs, Inc.; text in §5.8).
The three font families the site loads
SIL Open Font License 1.1 (full text in §5.5) · DM Sans — Copyright 2014 The DM Sans Project Authors (https://github.com/googlefonts/dm-fonts) · DM Serif Display — Copyright 2014 - 2017 Adobe Systems Incorporated (http://www.adobe.com/), with Reserved Font Name 'Source'. Copyright 2019 Google LLC. · DM Mono — Copyright 2020 The DM Mono Project Authors (https://www.github.com/googlefonts/dm-mono)
(Each line is the name table's copyright record read out of the woff2 files the
site serves — the binary is the authority, not memory, and
apps/console/test/fonts.test.js reads them; the italic files carry the same
record as their uprights.) The files are Google Fonts' own latin and latin-ext
subsets of DM Sans v17 and DM Serif Display v17, each in its upright and its italic
(the italics since moana#248), and the latin subset of DM Mono v16 in its two static
weights, 400 and 500 (the figures and code, since 2026-10-08), committed as Google serves them — not re-cut, which would make them a Modified Version — under
apps/console/src/themes/fonts/ and loaded through next/font/local
(src/themes/fonts.js). Until moana#163 next/font/google fetched the same bytes
from Google at build time, which put Google's response on the build's critical
path. The build emits them into .next/static/media/*.woff2, so they are served
from mediamoana.com, never from Google's CDN. Both the repo and the site
redistribute the binaries, and the OFL requires the notice to travel with them:
it does, as this file and as /licenses.
A share link's preview card (moana#363) draws its words with two of them, DM Sans and DM Serif Display,
in TrueType — satori, which renders it, reads neither woff2 nor a variable font: Google
Fonts' own static v17 instances DMSerifDisplay-Regular.ttf (DM Serif Display 400) and
DMSans-Medium.ttf (DM Sans 500), committed as Google serves them under
apps/console/src/server/share/fonts/. The card is an image drawn on the server; the
photobook (moana#413) is drawn in the owner's browser, which fetches the same two files
from mediamoana.com and embeds the glyphs the book uses in its PDF — the woff2 files
cannot be: fontkit does not subset a woff2's transformed glyph table. Embedding a subset
in a document is allowed, and leaves the document under its own licence (OFL FAQ 1.12,
1.13). Their name tables carry the copyright records above
(apps/console/test/sharePreview.test.js reads them).
The photographs on the home page
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) · Jakub Hałun (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Jakubhal) — photographs from Iceland, July 2024, published on Wikimedia Commons.
The home page (moana#432) shows them resized to three AVIF widths, some cropped to fit a frame, with their
metadata removed. CC BY 4.0 asks for the creator, the licence, a link to the material and a note that it was
changed; the page gives all four at its foot, each file linked to its Commons page. The files are the ones
apps/console/src/app/(public)/_components/landing/photos/sources.json names, and
apps/console/scripts/landing-photos.mjs, which fetches them, refuses a file whose author or licence is not
this one. The licence asks for its address, not its text, so §5 carries none.
3. How the copies reach their audiences
The site renders this file at build time on /licenses
(apps/console/src/app/(public)/(policy)/licenses/page.js, through
apps/console/src/server/markdown.js), linked from every public page's footer.
apps/console/test/thirdPartyNotices.test.js holds §2 to apps/console's dependencies:
every dependency is either named here or excluded in §4, and nothing is credited
that the site stopped shipping.
The package. There is none left to copy into. Every workspace package is
private: true since apps/cli was removed (moana#72), and the script that wrote
this file into each published package went with it. The moana-cli@1.0.2 tarball
on npm predates this file and carries no copy; a published version cannot be
edited, so §1 on this page is where its notices are. A package this repo starts
publishing again brings the copy back (imagestep's scripts/sync-notices.mjs is
the shape: committed copies, targets derived from private).
4. Deliberately not here
So that "considered and excluded" never looks like "forgotten":
apps/service(Java/Spring),apps/geo, the server half ofapps/console, and the image-processing worker (ImageStep's, deployed at the commitprocessing.pinnames — its notices are that repo's). These run as network services in our own containers. Running software for others is not distributing it, so their dependency licences impose no notice obligation here.apps/geohadprivateunset while having never been published (npm view geo-service→ 404); the fix was to make the state honest —private: true— rather than to give an internal service a licence file it has no audience for.apps/console's server-only dependencies, imported nowhere in the client module graph:@auth/pg-adapter,@aws-sdk/client-s3,@aws-sdk/s3-request-presigner,@elastic/elasticsearch,@searchkit/api,archiver,github-slugger,gray-matter,jsonwebtoken,mime-types,next-mdx-remote,pg,pino,reading-time,rehype-autolink-headings,rehype-pretty-code,rehype-slug,sharp, andshiki(the highlighterrehype-pretty-coderuns at build time). Stricter than server-side are the four that render this file into/licenses—unified,remark-parse,remark-rehypeandrehype-stringify: they run at BUILD time and what ships is their output, plain HTML.next-mdx-remoteis MPL-2.0 and worth naming: MPL's copyleft is triggered by distributing source or executables, not by answering HTTP with the output; it renders blog and docs pages on the server and no part of it reaches the browser. If any of these moves into a client component, it moves to §2.- Build- and test-time dev dependencies. They are in no tarball and no bundle.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR USE, REPRODUCTION, AND DISTRIBUTION
1. Definitions.
"License" shall mean the terms and conditions for use, reproduction,
and distribution as defined by Sections 1 through 9 of this document.
"Licensor" shall mean the copyright owner or entity authorized by
the copyright owner that is granting the License.
"Legal Entity" shall mean the union of the acting entity and all
other entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common
control with that entity. For the purposes of this definition,
"control" means (i) the power, direct or indirect, to cause the
direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or
otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the
outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity.
"You" (or "Your") shall mean an individual or Legal Entity
exercising permissions granted by this License.
"Source" form shall mean the preferred form for making modifications,
including but not limited to software source code, documentation
source, and configuration files.
"Object" form shall mean any form resulting from mechanical
transformation or translation of a Source form, including but
not limited to compiled object code, generated documentation,
and conversions to other media types.
"Work" shall mean the work of authorship, whether in Source or
Object form, made available under the License, as indicated by a
copyright notice that is included in or attached to the work
(an example is provided in the Appendix below).
"Derivative Works" shall mean any work, whether in Source or Object
form, that is based on (or derived from) the Work and for which the
editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications
represent, as a whole, an original work of authorship. For the purposes
of this License, Derivative Works shall not include works that remain
separable from, or merely link (or bind by name) to the interfaces of,
the Work and Derivative Works thereof.
"Contribution" shall mean any work of authorship, including
the original version of the Work and any modifications or additions
to that Work or Derivative Works thereof, that is intentionally
submitted to Licensor for inclusion in the Work by the copyright owner
or by an individual or Legal Entity authorized to submit on behalf of
the copyright owner. For the purposes of this definition, "submitted"
means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent
to the Licensor or its representatives, including but not limited to
communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems,
and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, the
Licensor for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but
excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise
designated in writing by the copyright owner as "Not a Contribution."
"Contributor" shall mean Licensor and any individual or Legal Entity
on behalf of whom a Contribution has been received by Licensor and
subsequently incorporated within the Work.
2. Grant of Copyright License. Subject to the terms and conditions of
this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,
worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable
copyright license to reproduce, prepare Derivative Works of,
publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute the
Work and such Derivative Works in Source or Object form.
3. Grant of Patent License. Subject to the terms and conditions of
this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,
worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable
(except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made,
use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work,
where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable
by such Contributor that are necessarily infringed by their
Contribution(s) alone or by combination of their Contribution(s)
with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. If You
institute patent litigation against any entity (including a
cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work
or a Contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct
or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses
granted to You under this License for that Work shall terminate
as of the date such litigation is filed.
4. Redistribution. You may reproduce and distribute copies of the
Work or Derivative Works thereof in any medium, with or without
modifications, and in Source or Object form, provided that You
meet the following conditions:
(a) You must give any other recipients of the Work or
Derivative Works a copy of this License; and
(b) You must cause any modified files to carry prominent notices
stating that You changed the files; and
(c) You must retain, in the Source form of any Derivative Works
that You distribute, all copyright, patent, trademark, and
attribution notices from the Source form of the Work,
excluding those notices that do not pertain to any part of
the Derivative Works; and
(d) If the Work includes a "NOTICE" text file as part of its
distribution, then any Derivative Works that You distribute must
include a readable copy of the attribution notices contained
within such NOTICE file, excluding those notices that do not
pertain to any part of the Derivative Works, in at least one
of the following places: within a NOTICE text file distributed
as part of the Derivative Works; within the Source form or
documentation, if provided along with the Derivative Works; or,
within a display generated by the Derivative Works, if and
wherever such third-party notices normally appear. The contents
of the NOTICE file are for informational purposes only and
do not modify the License. You may add Your own attribution
notices within Derivative Works that You distribute, alongside
or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided
that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed
as modifying the License.
You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and
may provide additional or different license terms and conditions
for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or
for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use,
reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with
the conditions stated in this License.
5. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise,
any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work
by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of
this License, without any additional terms or conditions.
Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify
the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed
with Licensor regarding such Contributions.
6. Trademarks. This License does not grant permission to use the trade
names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor,
except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the
origin of the Work and reproducing the content of the NOTICE file.
7. Disclaimer of Warranty. Unless required by applicable law or
agreed to in writing, Licensor provides the Work (and each
Contributor provides its Contributions) on an "AS IS" BASIS,
WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or
implied, including, without limitation, any warranties or conditions
of TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, or FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE. You are solely responsible for determining the
appropriateness of using or redistributing the Work and assume any
risks associated with Your exercise of permissions under this License.
8. Limitation of Liability. In no event and under no legal theory,
whether in tort (including negligence), contract, or otherwise,
unless required by applicable law (such as deliberate and grossly
negligent acts) or agreed to in writing, shall any Contributor be
liable to You for damages, including any direct, indirect, special,
incidental, or consequential damages of any character arising as a
result of this License or out of the use or inability to use the
Work (including but not limited to damages for loss of goodwill,
work stoppage, computer failure or malfunction, or any and all
other commercial damages or losses), even if such Contributor
has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
9. Accepting Warranty or Additional Liability. While redistributing
the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer,
and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity,
or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this
License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only
on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf
of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify,
defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability
incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason
of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability.

APPENDIX: How to apply the Apache License to your work.
To apply the Apache License to your work, attach the following
boilerplate notice, with the fields enclosed by brackets "[]"
replaced with your own identifying information. (Don't include
the brackets!) The text should be enclosed in the appropriate
comment syntax for the file format. We also recommend that a
file or class name and description of purpose be included on the
same "printed page" as the copyright notice for easier
identification within third-party archives.

5.5 SIL Open Font License 1.1 — DM Sans, DM Serif Display, DM Mono
One licence text, three families (§2). Each carries its own copyright line, quoted in §2 from the font binary; the licence below is the same OFL 1.1 for all three, verbatim:
This Font Software is licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1.
This license is copied below, and is also available with a FAQ at:

SIL OPEN FONT LICENSE Version 1.1 - 26 February 2007
-----------------------------------------------------------
PREAMBLE
The goals of the Open Font License (OFL) are to stimulate worldwide
development of collaborative font projects, to support the font creation
efforts of academic and linguistic communities, and to provide a free and
open framework in which fonts may be shared and improved in partnership
with others.
The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and
redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. The
fonts, including any derivative works, can be bundled, embedded,
redistributed and/or sold with any software provided that any reserved
names are not used by derivative works. The fonts and derivatives,
however, cannot be released under any other type of license. The
requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply
to any document created using the fonts or their derivatives.
DEFINITIONS
"Font Software" refers to the set of files released by the Copyright
Holder(s) under this license and clearly marked as such. This may
include source files, build scripts and documentation.
"Reserved Font Name" refers to any names specified as such after the
copyright statement(s).
"Original Version" refers to the collection of Font Software components as
distributed by the Copyright Holder(s).
"Modified Version" refers to any derivative made by adding to, deleting,
or substituting -- in part or in whole -- any of the components of the
Original Version, by changing formats or by porting the Font Software to a
new environment.
"Author" refers to any designer, engineer, programmer, technical
writer or other person who contributed to the Font Software.
PERMISSION & CONDITIONS
Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining
a copy of the Font Software, to use, study, copy, merge, embed, modify,
redistribute, and sell modified and unmodified copies of the Font
Software, subject to the following conditions:
1) Neither the Font Software nor any of its individual components,
in Original or Modified Versions, may be sold by itself.
2) Original or Modified Versions of the Font Software may be bundled,
redistributed and/or sold with any software, provided that each copy
contains the above copyright notice and this license. These can be
included either as stand-alone text files, human-readable headers or
in the appropriate machine-readable metadata fields within text or
binary files as long as those fields can be easily viewed by the user.
3) No Modified Version of the Font Software may use the Reserved Font
Name(s) unless explicit written permission is granted by the corresponding
Copyright Holder. This restriction only applies to the primary font name as
presented to the users.
4) The name(s) of the Copyright Holder(s) or the Author(s) of the Font
Software shall not be used to promote, endorse or advertise any
Modified Version, except to acknowledge the contribution(s) of the
Copyright Holder(s) and the Author(s) or with their explicit written
permission.
5) The Font Software, modified or unmodified, in part or in whole,
must be distributed entirely under this license, and must not be
distributed under any other license. The requirement for fonts to
remain under this license does not apply to any document created
using the Font Software.
TERMINATION
This license becomes null and void if any of the above conditions are
not met.
DISCLAIMER
THE FONT SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND,
EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY WARRANTIES OF

INCLUDING ANY GENERAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL

OTHER DEALINGS IN THE FONT SOFTWARE.
